Advanced preoperative neuroimaging study

Indicated in those cases in which the tumor is presumed to be in relation with some eloquent brain areas (areas of language, movement, vision and eloquent white matter tracts).

By introducing functional MRI and diffusion tensor sequences in a computer program, it is possible to reconstruct the white matter tracts of the brain related to movement, language and vision, as well as to know the anatomical relantionship between the cortical areas related to these functions and the tumor. Subsequently, all this information can be integrated into an intraoperative neuronavigation system.

Performing and advanced preoperative neuroimaging study is very helpful in the treatment of brain tumors and implantation of deep-brain stimulation electrodes as it reduces the risk of complications and neurological deficits.
