Spine and spinal cord disorders

We perform minimally invasive spine surgery. Minimally invasive techniques are a reality in our daily practice. Its use helps to achieve better results and less risk for the patient.

Conventional procedures that are carried out on the posterior part of the spine damage significantly the surrounding muscles that protect it with irreversible injuries to their innervation, which may cause poor surgery results. On the other hand, approaching the anterior part of the spine requires the opening of the chest or the abdomen which determines greater aggressiveness and a risk of unwanted and sometimes irreversible side effects. With the use of minimally invasive techniques, we aim to achieve better results than conventional approaches without their inconveniences.

In addition, the advantages of these techniques are also demonstrated in a faster and less painful recovery after surgery, with no need for transfusion of blood products, leading to shorter hospital admissions and earlier medical discharges as compared with conventional techniques.

More than 10 years ago, we started percutaneous and minimally invasive spine surgery techniques, guided by imaging and assisted by neuronavigation and intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring, applying them to vertebral fusion in degenerative and traumatic disorders as well as tumors. In Neurocirugia Avanzada BCN we have all the necessary technologies to perform these surgeries with the maximum safety for the patient.
